Boot-Lab: Custom Boot Fitting
For over 12 years I fitted ski and snowboard boots in Europe including world cup racers, guides, stars and journalists. I worked for the biggest and best snow retailer selling thousands of boots a year and training hundreds of staff how to fit boots professionally. I worked closely with the manufactures to help improve boot design, performance and fit including many factory visits all over the world. This knowledge is what I bought home – this is my passion.
Boot Fitting Philosophy
Everybody has different aspirations and feels different pressures in boots.
Every time you fit a boot you learn something new.
Keep the boot fit simple and listen to the customer.
The boot fit starts by evaluating every customer’s needs and desires. Foot shape and stability will be assessed along with measuring for size. Footbed, Sock choice and budget also have an equal part to play in helping to provide a choice of boots to compare. Once the best boot is selected, the liners can be heat moulded to your feet. Only now do you have a pair of boots that are custom fitted. I personally fit every boot myself on a one to one basis so appointments are recommended.
Footbeds
The Footbed is the single biggest most important addition to your boots and comfort. Footbeds support the foot, align the body and absorb shock to increase comfort and performance. We recommend and fit Superfeet to every boot we sell.
Socks
The correct choice of board sock is vital to your all day comfort. New socks protect, cushion, wick moisture, and keep you warmer. The thickness and choice of sock can drastically affect the fit and performance of your boots so please bring in the socks you use or buy new ones when having new boots fitted.
Ill fitting boots
Here at Urban Edge we specialise in refitting, stretching and modifying ski and snowboard boots. We have designed and had our own boot press made locally. It’s based on what we used in Europe with some Kiwi improvements and is the only one in New Zealand – if we can’t stretch your boots to fit - no one can.
